To build, complete and oversee the Chinese Garden at Louise McKinney Park

The Nine Dragon Wall

The newest addition to the Garden is the Nine Dragon Wall. In traditional Chinese architecture, screen walls were used to block or prevent negative energy from entering a property. Nine Dragon Walls were built by imperial families and can still be found in many imperial palaces in China today. The dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck and historically was reserved exclusively for the Emperor. In ancient times, use of the dragon symbol by anyone else was strictly prohibited.

Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is a powerful symbol that represents the unification of China for the first time in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). It also represents the ability of the Chinese to work together for a common good and has become a symbol of unity, protection, and the Chinese culture itself.

The Edmonton Chinese Garden Nine Dragon Wall

The Nine Dragon Wall within the Edmonton Chinese Garden is prominently located to not only block negative energy, but also to give auspicious blessings. The wall was carved out of stone by artisans in China, weighs 160 tonnes and measures about 19 m (62 feet) long, 5.6 m (18 feet) high, and features a mural of nine dragons on one side and a mural of the Great Wall of China on the other.
